Atlanta scrambles to find $13 million to fix ADA violations
July 16th, 2009From FOX 5 Atlanta:
A Justice Department audit has found that the city of Atlanta has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act from bathrooms to water fountains, City Hall elevators to the seats at Chastain amphitheater. Now, the city of Atlanta will have to pay millions to fix the violations.
The pricetag for fixing hundreds of violations is approximately $13 million. City Council Finance Chair Howard Shook said the city is committed to making the changes, but lacks the funds to make it happen.
The audit was the first for the city of Atlanta since the ADA was passed 19 years ago.
