An official state audit has found that autism services in Virginia are limited, poorly organized, and don’t offer help early enough, even though the state is spending more than $270 million annually to provide them. Many schools systems are not meeting the needs of students with autism, the report found.
More than 50 million people in the United States have disabilities, a number that is growing rapidly as the population ages. Experts say disability will soon affect the lives of most Americans.
