To the tune of $1B in Medicaid monies this budget year, and $1.2 billion next year. It's disgraceful that states are allowed to do this with the extra stimulus money...why isn't the Obama Administration putting a stop to this practice of "detargeting" the stimulus from it's general purpose of job creation? There is a report from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform -- Detargeting the stimulus. google it and you should find the report..I don't remember if California was one of the states in the report. Following the Special Election on Tuesday, in which voters turned down spurious attempts to balance the budget, the emboldened Schwarzenegger administration plans even more drastic cuts which will balance the state budget on the backs of disabled Californians. "Tax increases are off the table," says the governor.
