Fans say no pity votes for American Idol contestant

March 12th, 2009

The president of VSA arts, a non-profit that promotes programs for people with disabilities, says American Idol finalist Scott MacIntyre doesn’t need pity votes. MacIntyre is legally blind.

“We really think a pity vote is patronizing. We really want to be clear on that,” said Soula Antoniou.

Last week, online fans began to question whether American Idol judges were going easy on MacIntyre because of his disability or using his story to boost the audience numbers.

Scott MacIntyre was voted off of AI tonight. The judges didn’t save him. I’m not a musician but would agree this was probably the right call based on the performance and the talent that remains. I did want to say thank you to Scott for overcoming challenges and showing his abilities to the world. Another giant leap for mankind!
