Kids with disabilities underrepresented in New Orleans charters
March 5th, 2009From National Public Radio:
More than half of New Orleans schoolchildren have left their public schools for charter schools, but kids with disabilities and problem behaviors are being left behind.
Statistics show that the public schools have nearly twice as many students with disabilities as the charters. Said one public elementary school principal, “I am concerned that the charters are pushing their problem children onto us.”

Clearly, this principal has the “problem” in the way that he/she views children with disabilities……
Our environment/society has the disability and should be adapted — why else would all the children without disabilities be leaving the public school for the charters?
