One in five young adults has mental health problems
December 2nd, 2008From the Baltimore Sun, AP/USA Today:
Almost one in five young American adults has a personality disorder that interferes with everyday life, according to a study released this week in the Archives of General Psychiatry, and even more abuse alcohol or drugs.
Researchers led by Mark Olfson of Columbia University and New York State Psychiatric Institute found that only a quarter of those affected seek treatment.
“This study gives a picture of the magnitude of the problem and the extent to which these disorders go untreated,” said Olfson. “It really lays out the challenge of providing services to meet the need, particularly of alcohol use disorders.”
