Dem leader apologizes for Palin abortion remark
September 10th, 2008From the Associated Press, ABC News Political Radar blog, Politico.com:
The chairwoman of South Carolina’s Democratic Party apologized Wednesday for saying that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s chief qualification for national office “seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.” Trig Palin, the governor’s infant son, has Down syndrome that was diagnosed prenatally.
Carol Fowler’s remark was part of an interview posted on the website Politico.com.
“I personally admire and respect the difficult choices that women make everyday, and I apologize to anyone who finds my comment offensive,” Fowler said in a statement.
Fowler later said that she was “clumsily” trying to make a point about single-issue voters.
Obama spokesman Nick Shapiro said Fowler was not speaking for the campaign and did not reflect the candidate’s views.

It was a boneheaded thing to say. That doesn’t mean Palin is in any way qualified to be a heartbeat away. She’s not.
