Students in special ed must meet Maryland standards for all
September 1st, 2008From the Baltimore Sun:
The Maryland State Board of Education approved a request from advocates for students with disabilities to make high school assessment standards the same for all students. Only 9 to 10 percent of students who took the modified high school assessment passed last year, but state standards now require that all students must pass the assessment to receive a diploma.
Most students receiving special education take the high school assessment with some accommodations such as longer testing times. A modified version of the assessment is available for another 2 percent of the special education population with more significant challenges.
