Lawsuit filed against New Jersey governor by disability group

August 25th, 2008

From the [Newark, NJ] Star-Ledger, [Cherry Hill, NJ] Courier Post:

A New Jersey advocacy group filed a lawsuit alleging that Governor John Corzine failed to appoint the appropriate number of people with disabilities to the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities. State and federal law requires a minimum of six people with disabilities to serve on the council and provide input about policies that impact them; two self-advocates currently serve in New Jersey.

Next Step also filed a suit against the council executive director Alison Lozano for requesting the resignation of three disabled people from the council before finding replacements, for cutting programs, and for allegedly making disparaging comments about the populations served by the council.

The governor’s office declined to comment on the lawsuit.
