Abortion foes attack Obama over 2003 Illinois Senate bill
August 21st, 2008Pro-life nurse says she witnessed death of infant with Down syndrome

Senator Barack Obama is under intense criticism from anti-abortion groups over actions he took as an Illinois state senator to defeat a bill that would have granted legal protections to fetuses that survived abortion procedures. Obama has accused his opponents of “lying” about his position on the 2003 legislation, called the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.
Among Obama’s critics is pro-life activist and nurse Jill Stanek, who said on Fox’s Hannity and Colmes Show that she had witnessed the death of a child with Down syndrome who lived for 45 minutes after a failed abortion procedure in the Illinois hospital where she worked. Stanek accused Obama of misrepresenting his record on the 2003 bill and supporting infanticide.
