I appreciate your 8/17/08 Washington Post article "A Movie, A Word, and My Family's Battle" more than I can express. Thank you for using your talent to create better awareness and understanding for all our families. Using that word even once poisons the atmosphere and place where it was heard, and you described so well how I feel when I hear it each time.

I remember so well the first time I saw my son flinch when he heard that word. He was so young, I could not figure out where he could have learned it was a mean word at least once directed at him.

Last week on Oprah I caught part of an interview with Gavin de Becker, security consultant and author of _The Gift of Fear_, talking about how crime victims used intuition to save their lives, and how most of us are trained to ignore that intuition even in the most dangerous situations.

I dread finding out what influence the language and 'Simple Jack' characterization in Tropic Thunder will have on my son's safety and enjoyment of everyday life in our community.

Reading your WP article inspired me to protest against the movie and spread awareness here.

Thank you.
