Delaware gubernatorial candidates joust at disability forum
July 19th, 2008From the [Wilmington, DE] News Journal:
Three candidates running for governor in Delaware addressed a disability forum this week. Lt. Gov. John Carney Jr. (D), state Treasurer Jack Markell (D) and airline pilot Mike Protack (Ind.) spent more than an hour responding to questions at a forum sponsored by the State Council for Persons with Disabilities, the Delaware Association of Rehabilitation Facilities, and others.
The candidates all expressed support for expanded community living options, universal health care coverage, and increased employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Republican Bill Lee did not attend.
It is estimated that there are more than 100,000 people with disabilities in Delaware. The event marked the first time that disability issues had been the focus of a gubernatorial candidate forum in the state.
