Pistorius fails in Olympic bid; Legal action threatened
July 16th, 2008From Reuters/New York Times, Reuters, BBC:
Oscar Pistorius failed in his final bid to achieve the individual Olympic 400m qualifying standard on Wednesday in Lucerne, Switzerland, but still hopes to be chosen for the 4×400m relay squad.
Through attorneys, the 21-year-old amputee sprinter now says he might take action against the IAAF after one of its officials recommended that he be kept off the South African relay team “for reasons of safety.”
Pierre Weiss, the secretary general of the International Association of Athletics Federations, claimed the South African presented a danger to other athletes in the relay and said publicly that he would rather Pistorius wasn’t picked.
