Restraining order upheld; Church can bar boy with autism
July 1st, 2008From the Wadena [Minnesota] Pioneer Journal:
A judge in Long Prairie, Minnesota, yesterday ruled that 13-year-old Adam Race could be barred from church because his behavior amounted to “repeated harassment.”
In upholding a restraining order, the court found that the youth’s parents were “unable to prevent their adult-sized minor child from repeated incidents of unwanted and intrusive conduct” during Mass at St. Joseph’s church.
Carol Race, Adam’s mother, said she planned to consult an attorney about challenging the state harassment statute on constitutional grounds.
The decision allows Adam to participate in a private Mass arranged by and agreed to by the parish.
