Deaf rider frustrated by Washington Metro system
June 23rd, 2008The Washington Post’s popular Dr. Gridlock column responds to a letter from a Gallaudet University student who is deaf and has been aggravated by the apparent indifference of city subway workers. “Metro workers kind of ignored me and treated me like I wasn’t important since I am deaf and cannot communicate well,” he wrote.
Metro officials assure Dr. Gridlock that its employees are trained in assisting people with disabilities, and that the vast majority follow their training.
The doctor’s response: “Test them.”
