Editorial: Milwaukee should settle special ed case
June 16th, 2008The Milwaukee Public Schools’ fight over how it identifies and works with special education students has gone on too long and needs to stop, says an editorial in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Delaying only adds to the already hefty cost of the case.
The district should be prepared to fully educate all students, and the state should pay for a greater share of the cost of special education. So should the federal government — which the writers say has never come close to living up to the promises it made more than 30 years ago to help local districts fund special education.
