ifteen-year-old Max Lewis has Down Syndrome
From the [UK] Daily Mail:
Sandy Lewis’s son played a featured role in the film Notes on a Scandal, starring Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench. In her upcoming book, “Living with Max,” Lewis reflects on people’s insensitivity about her son’s diagnosis.
One night, I went for a drink with a friend, Emma, and the subject turned to producing a healthy baby. Emma was clear that she wouldn’t hesitate in terminating a disabled fetus.
“Even though I have a second cousin with Down syndrome, we’ve not got any poisoned blood running in the family,” she said.
“So there’s no way I would produce a child with such a poor gene pool. I’ve no need to worry.”
I haven’t spoken to her since.
