Oscar Pistorius appeals Olympic Games ban

Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee sprinter, has appealed against his ban from competing in the Olympic Games.

Last month the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) ruled that the South African cannot participate in the Beijing Games because a scientific report concluded that his prosthetic legs gave him a competitive advantage due to a spring effect.

Pistorious, 21, said: “I am filing this appeal not just for myself, but for all disabled athletes. We deserve a chance to compete at the highest levels if our bodies permit us to do so.”
