‘We’re all different and that’s okay’
November 26th, 2007Gifted student ’stirs the pot’ with diversity message
From the [Toronto] Star:
High School student Connor Steele, who delivered a message of diversity and acceptance to a teachers’ conference in Ontario recently, has been challenging conventional wisdom throughout his seventeen years.
Steele has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. A gifted student, he has acted in a school play, served on student council, launched a book club and started a homework cafe.
Steele told the teachers that technology has helped integrate people with special needs into the school system, but that widespread discrimination against people with disabilities is still a problem.
