Court hears new disability dispute over Agent Orange, veterans
November 7th, 2007From USA Today:
A federal appeals court is hearing arguments about which veterans of the Vietnam War should be eligible for disability benefits because of presumed exposure to Agent Orange. Veterans who served on ocean-going ships have claimed coverage for illnesses, including diabetes, that have been linked to the defoliant. The Department of Veterans Affairs has limited coverage to individuals who served on land or on smaller boats patrolling inland waterways.
The decision could affect thousands of Navy veterans who served on ships and whose disability claims have been denied. In court papers, the VA says the case could affect more than 8000,000 Navy veterans who served off the Vietnam coast.
