Editorial: ‘Disabled Americans still don’t have equality’
August 23rd, 2007From the Oakland, Michigan, Press:
Editorial writers track progress since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act 17 years ago. They find that significant barriers still exist in the access of people with disabilities to employment, health insurance, health care, financial assets and the internet. An excerpt:
Making businesses accessible to the disabled is good for corporate America because the disabled are consumers.
It makes sense that all levels of education are accessible because the disabled will acquire marketable job skills, and their independence will save society billions a year.
… Until each disabled person participates fully in all aspects of our society, the promise of America’s potential greatness will remain beyond the horizon.
