Vermont trails become wheelchair accessible
August 22nd, 2007An Associated Press story in USA Today documents the opening of Vermont’s third wheelchair-accessible trail, which opens parts of an important Revolutionary War historic site to the public for the first time.
The National Park Service is readying a new online resource that will list trails, activities and other park experiences that are accessible to people who rely on wheelchairs. The web link for the program is expected to become available in September. Organizers in Killington, Vermont, also hope to complete a project relocating part of the Appalachian Trail this fall. When the project is finished, it will be the first section of the Appalachian Trail in northern New England to be designed as wheelchair accessible.
