California schools to assist students with diabetes
August 9th, 2007As the result of a lawsuit brought by parents, California has given school districts an order that they must provide medical care to students with diabetes. California superintendent of schools Jack O’Connell announced the agreement, which will require schools to help students with insulin shots and monitoring of blood glucose levels.
“It’s an agreement that will give clarity to all school districts across California that will enable them to protect students with disabilities,” O’Connell said.
… The historic agreement betwen the California Department of Education and the American Diabetes Association resolves litigation filed by four families and the American Diabetes Association alleging California school districts were not providing proper medical services to children.
